Parents of the Bride (not really!)

Jim, Jordyn and I were invited to be part of a Bridal Show tonight. Our friend and Assoc. Pastor, Bruce Ellis owns a Bridal Salon (http://www.ellisff.com/) and Jim and I played the part of "parents of the bride", while Jordyn was a Junior Brides Maid. We had a fun night dressing-up and having a "pretend" wedding reception complete with all the works: photographer, DJ, Caterer, and so on! Thanks Bruce!!!

Aww, doesn't my man look hot?? and, yep, JoJo's a daddy's girl!

The Three Stooges: New Generation?

A bit blurry, but Yvonne (Bruce's wife) looked great tonight!

Girl-ness (blue string bracelets and all!!!)

I am so glad I was born a girl!! (read on for more)

We had a great Friday Night Live spring kick-off this week! Though it was a rainy, dreary cold night, many came out quite enthused for the upcoming studies. One for men and one for women.

The women kicked-off Beth Moore's Believing God study (yep..got my blue bracelet on my right arm!) while the men are studying about getting "Wild at Heart".

I was still giggling to myself this morning as I think of the differences in the men and women. For example, Friday Night...the women's room was "a buzz" with chatter as we all arrived, excited to get a fresh workbook. Of course we had snacks! Hot chocolate (someone even brought marshmallows), hot cider, candy kisses (purple of course) and grapes for the healthy ones among us. It cracked me up as the men walked passed our room to their, empty, non-snack filled room. After about 5 minutes I guess some of the men were feeling a little "left out" so they journeyed back to the women's room to steal some food.

Finally it was time to watch our DVD....do you know how hard it is to quiet a room full of women to start a DVD? Definitely a ministry challenge. Anyway, I have to wonder if the men, at the end of their study stood to their feet to practice a 5 finger pledge, half crying, half laughing...then ended Beth Moore's lecture DVD with an outburst of "Yeah"'s and clapping??? Doubt it. (Maybe they all grunted together).

I think one of my favorite parts of the night was when one of our most well dressed, "has it all together" women (You know the one that everyone wants to be like??), figured out she had to actually wear the blue string on her wrist for 9 more weeks!! I have never seen a head bob back and forth with such attitude. ha ha We all knew she was thinking about "fashion" and that blue doesn't necessarily match every outfit. I love you CR!

This morning was fun as all the women were doing our "wrist" checks today to see if all had their blue string bracelets on...and sure enough we all did! (including the one that protested the loudest). Go CCF gals! As I said Friday Night, the string isn't a Yurman..but it is a Burton. A Becky Burton original.

Yesterday was another fun time to be a girl. Several of us stayed after a ministry event and played DDR (Dance Dance Revolution) on Wii and squealed with excitement as we jumped up and down and clapped after someone scored a "D" (that's good if you knew how old we were!). I am hurtin' today though!

Well, here's to girl-ness, blue string bracelets, kisses and DDR!

Random Thanksgiving

Just a few things I am thankful for:

  • My man and the things he puts up with. How he lives with me, I just don’t know!
  • Waking up with a sound mind
  • The color purple – and that I have sight to see
  • My health
  • For the founder of Maggie Moo’s (best ice cream store ever!)
  • For Yorkies – They make me laugh
  • For upbeat praise songs – and that I can hear them
  • For my messy house – it reflects that we live, work and school all under one roof
  • Friends that say they will pray , and they REALLY do!
  • Seeing Gravedigger on the side of the road this weekend (it made me think of my Thursday Night Summer Bible Study gals!)
  • For a group of women from all denominations coming together through Community Bible Study, lifting up Jesus together and not caring where each other goes to church.
  • For God-winks (like seeing a weight in the middle of the road Sunday while listening to a sermon about throwing off all “weights” (encumbrances) and sins that keep us easily entangled.)
  • Lightening bugs (don’t they just crack you up? God put a light in a bug's tail! I LOVE IT!)
  • That I finally like myself at age 30something (I’ll keep you guessing on that one)
  • For being able to hear the birds that wake me up early in the morning as they sing (I do wish I knew what they were “saying” though)
  • Chocolate (enough said)
  • G.D.O. each Thursday with Jordyn. You go LeeLee
  • For Amanda (whose brain is truly blonde). She knows how to make me laugh.
  • For a church where I can wear jeans or I can dress if I want.
  • That I can approach His throne boldly and pray!
  • Milk duds – they are best when mixed in hot popcorn
  • Licorice - not best when mixed in hot popcorn
  • My make-up! (when the barn needs painting, put two coats on it, right?)
  • Christian parents
  • Snow and cold weather (please don’t send me hate mail after reading that)
  • Being able to listen to KLOVE (Christian Music Station) everyday via the internet
  • Caller ID and Tivo
  • Dr. Seuss Books (Old Hat, New Hat ..rocks!!)
  • The Freedom to home school my daughter
  • He starts answering prayers before they are prayed (Isaiah 64:24 Before they call I will answer; while they are still speaking I will hear.)

Pursuing Him At All Times (P.H.A.T.)

Can you believe we are at the end of January? The end of the first month of 2008. My goodness. I like January. I enjoy a "fresh" start. I must confess that I am one of "those" that makes New Years Resolutions. I always have. I like to write them down and then check them from time to time, year to year to see if I am making progress. Interestingly enough, I seem to make the same resolutions every year.

I guess it comes as no surprise that number one on my list each year is to shed a few pounds that I gained during the holidays. I know that my 72 ounce bag of chocolate chips at Christmas didn't help.

I heard a verse a few weeks ago at the Community Bible Study that I attend that got me to thinking. Lynne, our Teaching Director shared Psalms 65:11. Here is the NIV version:

11 You crown the year with your bounty, and your carts overflow with abundance.

Now look at the Amplified Version:
11You crown the year with Your bounty and goodness, and the tracks of Your [chariot wheels] drip with fatness.

His carts overflow with abundance, drip with fatness. It is there for us to take. I want all He has for me. I want to take in more of His Word, I desire more of Him. So, I want to get "FAT" this year, "fat" in The Lord. I want to sit and let His drippings cover me as I study His Word and as I humble myself and seek His face in prayer.

As many of you know, shedding weight takes work. It takes determination. It is hard. It doesn't come natural. After a few weeks, many just quit, let's be honest, we just get lazy. But we must stay the course if we want results. The same is true if we want to "get fat" on God's Word. It takes work. It takes determination. It is hard. It doesn't come natural. If we quit surrounding ourselves with The Word, or if we get lazy and neglect our personal study time, we will start to shrivel. We must stay the course. We must adjust our schedules and make time to sit in His presence for Bible reading/study and for prayer. We must do this daily! Time is short.

We must be about HIM! Pursuing Him at ALL times (Interestingly enough that last sentence would make the acrostic of P.H.A.T! ).

So, how about you? Do you want to get "PHAT" with me? Let's determine to grow in God's Word and to grow in prayer in 2008 and pursue HIM at ALL times.

Love This Song!

This has to be the song most listened to on my Fi-pod (fake Ipod)!
