My Christmas Cup is over flowing!

You honor me by anointing my head with oil. My cup overflows with blessings.  Psalms 23:5

As I reflect on Christmas 09, I am filled with joy as my cup is truly overflowing tonight.  The Burtons started our Christmas celebrations with an amazing Christmas Eve watching old home movies with my parent and brother.  It was literally like watching a personalized version of "It's Wonderful Life".   Yes, my cup runneth over.  Not because I unwrapped some amazing, long awaited gift today (though I got some neat stuff).  My cups run over because I was with my family today.  My husband, daughter, my parents and my in-laws.  We are alive. (Even my precious MIL who we thought might not make it out of the hospital a few weeks ago was home today to celebrate the birth of Jesus with her family.)  My cup runs over not because we had snow on the ground in VA today.  Because my daughter Amanda is happily married to a great man and spent Christmas with his family in snowy Colorado.  Her belly is bulging with baby Jaylynn who will make her grand appearence in April.   Yes, my cup runs over because my family has MORE than enough food on the table, we have a roof over our heads, my loved ones have jobs and we were together.  Thank you Jesus for another amazing Christmas.  My cup runs over because of Jesus--He came to earth as a babe to ultimately die for me (and for you) so that we could have eternal life.  That is enough to say:  My cup runneth over indeed!

Feeling a little flaky

A snowflake is one of God's most fragile creations, but look what they can do when they stick together!  ~Author Unknown

How many more Christmas miracles can I handle?  The area in which I live is often called the "no snow zone".  That term does not apply this weekend!  I am in heaven tonight (even baked a Texas Sheet cake for the occasion).  My man surprised me and took me out to see the Christmas lights in the snow fall.  It was like a winter wonderland.

I adore snow.  I just can't help myself.  It gives me an amazing peace that I can not understand.  I understand that many people do not like snow, they don't see it the way I do.   I have an odd perspective of snow.  I see it as a "God-wink".  And the timing of THIS pre-Christmas snow (to me) is an unexpected gift from God to me.

Snow + Christmas lights = Beck's little slice of heaven

I look out the window and just imagine Him saying, "Here ya go Beck!  Merry Christmas and Happy Birthday.  I love you."    I just want to go lay in the snow face down and worship Him, the creator of this awesome white fluff!  Yes, I love snow that much.  Yes, I love Jesus even more!!

(Tilli is adoring baby Jesus!!  Poor Baby Jesus--I have to keep wiping the snow off his face.   )

My surprise date night!

What can I say?  She is my child!!!

And yet, another Christmas miracle!

Ladies and gentlemen Jim (Hi honey! I bet you are the only male reading my blog). It has happened. Another Christmas miracle. I, Beckums Burton, went outside my comfort zone and went to a craft store today. Yes, you read that correctly. This undomesticated diva not only went to a craft store but I was on a mission for an inexpensive DIY Christmas ornament for my Purple Pinky Prayer Partners Class. After wandering the store, I ran across their DIY display. They had a cute idea! Hmmm...the idea reminded me of ornaments I have seen on some fellow bloggers' sites. Then my mind does what it does best...it started the the comparisons and what-ifs "well, if they can do it, so can I! Besides I'm older than those young blogger chicks. Uh-oh but, what if mine don't look as good as theirs? What if they flop and I don't have a gift for my class...." I mean really? Can it be that hard? Shoot--I've home schooled for twelve years. If I can dissect an earth worm in the kitchen for Biology then SURELY I can make an ornament. I stood in the aisle, took a deep breath, repeated the Serenity prayer (not really) and then I loaded up my cart and headed to the check-out counter.

I came, I saw, and I conquered. Who knew I could be so crafty? (well--in this sense of the word!) I feel so empowered now. I am woman hear me roar!!!

(BTW--if you are in my Women's Bible Study class and are reading this before Sunday---act surprised when you get your ornament. lol!)

Not a "blue" Christmas--a PINK one

Amanda (my oldest daughter) and my SIL had their first ultrasound today! Let me introduce you to my grand-baby to be....here SHE is:

"She" is sucking her thumb! Like mother like child! (I think Amanda may still suck her thumb. lol)

Here is how Jordyn and I reacted to the amazing news when Amanda called and said, "It's a girl!!".

I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful,
I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place. When I was woven together in the depths of the earth, your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be. Psalms 139:14-16

Just a "glance" - This is how we Christmas 2009

I am joining the Christmas fun with some Minister's Wives over at Lisa's blog! This week is "show us your Christmas decorations". I am far from an interior decorator but I do love Christmas. So I thought I'd play along and share a "glance" at few of my favorite things:

Took this shot tonight! Happy Hannakuah! I am not Jewish, but I love Jesus Messiah with all my heart! (Here is my post from last year about my menorah ). From my kitchen I can "glance" and see my menorah, Christmas poinsetta and Christmas Tree in one look. That makes me smile. Besides--smiling is my favorite.

This is my favorite 'glance' in my living room. Old and new. Antiques and Zebra. I am especially fond of the nativity manger scene on the school desk in this picture. This nativity was one of my favorite childhood memories of Christmas. My mom displayed this in our living room when I was growing-up.

This is a close-up view of my manger.

A 'glance' at one of my favorite ornaments. My husband and I have had a good "healthy" debate for 20 years about whether the reindeer's name is Donder or Donner. I say the original poem named the reindeer Donder. My sister-in-law found this ornament and gave it to me years ago. I proudly display this Donder ornament on the front of my tree EVERY year. Just a simple reminder that I am right. hee hee (I love you Jim!!)

The Spirit of Christmas

The Spirit of Christmas needs to be superceeded by The Spirit of Christ.
The Spirit of Christmas is annual; The Spirit of Christ is eternal.
The spirit of Christmas is sentimental; The Spirit of Christ is supernatural.
The spirit of Christmas is a human product; The Spirit of Christ is a divine person.
That makes all the difference in the world.

~ Stuart Briscoe

Merry CHRISTmas!!!

Beck The Baker...bake! bake! bake!

That great gal over at Kelly's Korner (who is one of my new friends--though she doesn't know it! lol) want us to show you our life by sharing our favorite Christmas tradition. I have two that come to my mind.

First tradition: Salty Christmas Cracker Candy
I don't cook. Plain and simple. Don't like it and don't want to like it. However, I DO LOVE to do me some bakin'! Christmas time is one of my favorite times to put on some Christmas tunes and get in the kitchen with my 72 ounce bag of chocolate chips. One of our yearly Christmas traditions is to make "Salty Cracker Candy". Basically it is a 'poor girls' version of some of the sea salted chocolates you will find at some higher end stores.

Here is the recipe for my "Salty Christmas Cracker Candy"
